Uncle Sam

Almost everybody has heard of or seen Uncle Sam, but how many know who he really was?

Sam Wilson supplied meat for the US military stationed in New York in the War of 1812. Each container of meat was stamped with a "US" for the United States. However, when a federal inspector was checking the meat, he was informed otherwise. A smart-alec employee told him that the "US" actually stood for Uncle Sam, the nickname given to Sam Wilson. The word spread and not long after, everybody knew that the "US" was for Uncle Sam. It was in the early 1960s that Congress named Sam Wilson as the official Uncle Sam.

Thanks for reading this and remember: We want you to spread the word of gaspricesweekly.blogspot.com
